Our company founder, Andra Hearne has a Master's Degree in Animal Nutrition and a Ph.D. in Food Chemistry.
Dr. Hearne has published articles and conducted research in nutrition and food chemistry. She believes that information and knowledge should be distributed to animal lovers so that they may gain the insight about optimum health for their champions and companions.
The company was founded through the inspiration and support of her husband, Michael, and through the encouragement of her friends. We hope that, all animal lovers, will become as passionate as we are about proper nutrition for their beloved pets. We believe that proper nutrition is needed to maximize animal health and genetic potential.
Dr. Hearne is also a breeder of the Egyptian Mau cats. When she first started breeding, she consulted with her vet, Dr. Elizabeth Hodgkins on diet. Her vet recommended that a raw diet was the best based on her personal experience. Contrary to popular belief, the vet’s recommendation made a lot of sense to Dr. Hearne. Dr. Hearne researched this recommendation and began switching all of her animals to raw diets. She established diets for her animals based on their dietary needs for gestation, lactation, growth and development, and the maintenance. The rest is history! Her quest for proper nutrition carried over from her days of raising dairy animals and showing horses. After all, performance horses and dairy cattle are fed to maximize their performance, so why not think of small animals in the same capacity?
Through her experience, she has found that the health of her animals significantly improved once they were switched to balanced raw food diet. For example, one of her queens packed on one to two pounds of pure muscle. She increased her litter size from one kitten to six kittens and was the picture of health during gestation and lactation. Additionally, she has found that her animals became less prone to infections. One of her animals kept having issues recurent eye infections. After the animal was switched to raw and the kittens were started on raw, the incidence of this infection was significantly reduced. The improvements appear to be caused by the immunity boost related to nutrition. The two go hand-in-hand. In fact, even during gestation and lactation, the animals maintain a shiny coat. Issues such as hair balls and shedding were mitigated. Her animals were developing nice angular, well-muscled bodies and queens were recovering from times of stress from raising their kittens. Show animals were developing healthy bodies and were becoming champions. Although Egyptian Maus are beautiful, their true beauty and chiseled, angular bodies can be achieved only through proper nutrition. After all, nutrition is the foundation for any animal. Even if you don’t have a champion, you have a wonderful companion that is on the road to living a long and as healthy life as possible.
